Tihar Dog Festival

Dogs are celebrated in Nepal during a 5 day long festival.
They are garlanded and fed well on the auspicious day of kukur tihar.
And of course the dogs love it πŸ™‚
Play colors (red/pink) are applied on their forehead.
And they are requested to pose for photographs which they happily do πŸ™‚
Some of them have no idea what’s going on!
They keep walking around the streets with a pride !
Or even step on the color patterns(Rangoli) laid over the ground. Afterall, it’s their day and they may do as they wish !

Dogs are considered to belong to the God of Death in Hinduism. Hindus believe that after death a dog walks with the soul on the way to heavens.

Nepal being a Hindu majority country, this festival is vividly celebrated. Infact, with Nepalese traveling around the world it is now being celebrated in Mexico and Australia as well.

A good tradition to spread around πŸ™‚
